| It took quite a while to finalize the mixes. Some tracks got lost in cyber space and had to be recovered and remixed from scratch! And maybe I was too fussy with the mixes. There are many subtleties that few or even one person will hear. When I mentioned this to Andrew recently he remarked, “I heard it, so don’t worry about it.” I took the CD to Myles Boisen for mastering but found I couldn’t get the sound I was after in the 90 minutes I could afford so I purchased the necessary software and mastered it myself. Still it was good to play it for Myles. I had taken a few guitar lessons from him and was curious as to what he thought. I asked, “How did I do Myles? I’m trying to provide some atmosphere with the lap steel.” “Well, he said, “without atmosphere we couldn’t breathe.” The graphics and cover art took quite a while to complete. Since this was a soundtrack CD I wanted the images to be high quality and representative of the films. I became the devil in the details. Deadlines came and went. Phillip Greenlief must have wondered if I was crying “wolf”. The incompletion of the project threw me into a deep depression, a place where this excitable boy had never been. Finally the arrival day came. I was too nervous to sit and wait for the UPS truck so my wife Marie signed for the 10 boxes of CDs. I can say the end product turned out very close to what I had in mind. I discovered a new excitement for the music and set up a CD release show on January 22 at 21 Grand in Oakland. REEL CHANGE will be: Andrew Voigt, George Cremaschi, Tom Nunn, Phillip Greenlief, David Michalak and guest Kyle Bruckman. A million thanks to the musicians for their dedication and so much inventive music. REEL CHANGE is coming! David Michalak |
